Egyptian-Chinese Cooperation to Bring Ultra-Fast EV Chargers to Egypt's Streets
Raya Smart Buildings, a subsidiary of Raya Holding for Financial Investments, has revealed the next phase of its partnership with Chinese company Sungrow. The meeting held in Cairo brought together executives from both firms to discuss expanding Egypt's electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Meeting Details and Future Plans
Tompson Ming, Sungrow's Executive Vice President and Head of the Middle East and Africa region, attended the meeting alongside Ahmed Khalil, CEO of Raya Holding, and Ahmed Ibrahim, CEO of Raya Smart Buildings. The two sides reviewed cooperation updates and outlined future expansion strategies.
Raya's Electra network continues its growth across Egypt after activating several ultra-fast charging stations in New Alamein City. The network also operates in Cairo and along major highways and key road corridors linking different governorates.
Charging Stations with 180 kW Capacity
The highest capacity currently available in the Egyptian market. Network stations deliver up to 180 kW, significantly reducing charging time compared to standard chargers, which directly improves the efficiency of electric cars in daily use.
Ultra-fast EV chargers typically range from 100 kW to 350 kW, with some major manufacturers now reaching 1,100 kW for advanced batteries. In-car fast phone chargers, by contrast, operate between 20 and 120 watts.
Infrastructure Challenges and Proposed Solutions
The discussion addressed major obstacles facing rapid charger deployment in Egypt, primarily limited grid capacity in certain areas. This constraint currently hampers the installation of high-capacity charging stations across various locations nationwide.
Both parties explored practical solutions to overcome these challenges, focusing on integrated systems that enable efficient station operation. The collaboration between the Egyptian firm and the Chinese manufacturer represents a critical step in supporting EV adoption, a segment witnessing accelerating demand growth in the local market.
