SN Automotive Sets September Launch for Locally Assembled Dongfeng Mage EV
The countdown is on. SN Automotive is preparing to launch the fully electric Dongfeng Mage, assembled locally in Egypt, during September, according to informed sources familiar with the company's plans.
Dongfeng Mage EV Specifications
The new vehicle will be available in a single trim powered by a fully electric motor delivering 163 horsepower and a peak torque of 240 Nm. That places it in the practical performance range for daily urban driving.
Driving range extends to 480 kilometers on a single charge, a figure that puts it directly against competitors in the Egyptian market. The car also supports fast charging, replenishing 80% of battery capacity in just half an hour.
Vehicle Scrappage Initiative
Expectations suggest the Dongfeng Mage will be the first electric vehicle to join the new vehicle scrappage initiative announced by Engineer Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry. The updated program focuses on clean energy adoption by encouraging fully electric or hybrid models across various types.
A key requirement for the initiative is that vehicles must be manufactured in Egypt, which applies to the locally assembled Dongfeng Mage. The program will offer facilitations and incentives for customers replacing old vehicles, with estimates pointing to higher support values compared to the previous scrappage initiative that ended several years ago.
The previous program granted private car owners a green incentive of 10% of the new vehicle's value, capped at EGP 22,000, and 20% capped at EGP 45,000 for taxi vehicles. The Ministry of Finance managed the mechanism through its fund for purchasing rapid transit vehicles.
