Jameel Motors, the exclusive distributor of Chinese brand GAC in Egypt, has signed a contract with the parent company to locally assemble the GAC GS3 Emzoom at the Egyptian-German Automotive (EGA) factories. The move is part of expansion plans aimed at boosting local manufacturing in the Egyptian market.
Deal Details and Timing
The agreement was announced during the opening of Jameel Motors' newest GAC showroom on the Ring Road in New Cairo. The event coincided with the company's celebration of 20 years of operations in Egypt. The signing ceremony was attended by Wayne Wei, President of GAC International; Hassan El-Alamy, First Executive General Manager of Jameel Motors Africa; Karim Abou El-Fadl, Regional General Manager of Jameel Motors Egypt; Karim Samy Saad, Chairman of NATCO Group; and Yasser Saleh, CEO of EGA.
GAC GS3 Emzoom: First Locally Assembled Model
The GAC GS3 Emzoom is the chosen model to be the first GAC vehicle assembled in Egypt. This selection reflects the company's direction toward offering models suited to local market needs. Local assembly will help reduce costs and stabilize pricing compared to full imports, giving the brand a competitive edge in Egypt's automotive market.
Executive Statements on Expansion
Hassan El-Alamy, First Executive General Manager of Jameel Motors Africa, said the Egyptian market is one of the key strategic markets for GAC in the region. He added that the local assembly contract comes within expansion plans in Egypt and reflects the company's direction toward developing its business and strengthening the brand's presence, leveraging its 80-plus years of experience and international reach across more than 10 brands in over 10 markets worldwide.
Impact on the Local Market
Assembling the GS3 Emzoom locally strengthens GAC's position in Egypt. Local manufacturing opens the door for more models in the future and reduces reliance on imports. The Egyptian market is witnessing strong competition among Chinese brands. Local assembly could give GAC a pricing and operational advantage. With the new showroom on the Ring Road, the brand has also expanded its service network.
Future Plans
The company did not disclose when production will begin or the investment size for the assembly line. Yet the agreement marks a first step toward broader manufacturing. Twenty years of Jameel Motors' operations in Egypt reflect a long-term commitment. Local assembly of GAC could change the game in Egypt's Chinese car segment.
