Egypt Enters the Smart Car Chip Game: Electronics Exports Now Underway
Engineer Raafat Hendy, Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, confirmed that the government is moving forward with expanding the base of Egyptian exports of technological services. This came during the signing ceremony of a cooperation protocol between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and the Export Development Fund, attended by Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade. He emphasized that including these services in the export development program enhances the competitiveness of Egyptian products and services, supporting their access to global markets.
A Strategic Step for Smart Car Chips
The minister explained that adding electronics design, semiconductor, and embedded systems companies to the export burden refund program represents a strategic step to support advanced technology industries, particularly those linked to the modern automotive sector. This sector increasingly relies on electronics, software, and intelligent control systems within vehicles, opening new horizons for Egyptian industry.
Global Shift Toward Smart and Software-Defined Vehicles
Hendy pointed out that this trend directly impacts the global automotive industry, especially with the shift toward smart cars and vehicles dependent on software and advanced driver-assistance systems. He stressed that this opens the door for Egypt to strengthen its presence in designing Electronic Control Units (ECUs), embedded systems, and automotive software solutions.
Building an Integrated Digital Ecosystem
The minister added that the collaboration with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade aims to build an integrated digital system, accelerate the digitization of investor services, and link them with various government entities. This contributes to improving the business environment and facilitating procedures for local and international companies operating in the technology and industrial sectors, particularly the smart car components industry.
Egypt as a Regional Hub for Automotive Electronics Design
Concluding his remarks, Engineer Raafat Hendy affirmed Egypt's growing attractiveness as a regional and global hub for electronics design and automotive software companies, supported by exceptional engineering talent. He noted that these steps align with the goals of the presidential initiative 'Egypt Makes Electronics,' which seeks to deepen local manufacturing, increase added value, attract global design and development centers, strengthen supply chains, and create high-quality job opportunities, especially in industries related to future automotive technology.
