Leapmotor D99 Debuts at Beijing Auto Show as a Family-Focused Electric SUV with Up to 800 km Range
Leapmotor D99 Unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show
Leapmotor has revealed the new D99 at the Beijing Auto Show, introducing a full-size electric multi-purpose SUV built on a 1000-volt architecture. The model offers a driving range of up to 800 km, features a 115 kWh CATL battery pack, and delivers a premium experience designed for the entire family.
Inspired by Beijing Zoo
Positioned as Leapmotor’s flagship family-oriented vehicle, the D99 is equipped with the brand’s latest technologies. The vehicle appeared at the show in an unusual Beijing Zoo-inspired version featuring a large panda figure mounted on the roof. Beneath its playful appearance, however, lies advanced technology including the LEAP 4.0 platform, a seven-seat cabin with a 2+2+3 seating layout, a 1000-volt electrical architecture, and a driving range of up to 800 km.
Full-Size Design and Dimensions
Leapmotor showcased the D99 as one of the key models in its new D Series lineup. Images indicate that it is not a compact family vehicle, but a full-size multi-purpose model with a near-vertical rear design, a short front overhang, a tall roofline, and a forward-positioned cabin layout.
The dimensions reinforce its large footprint, measuring 5,280 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and either 1,900 mm or 1,880 mm in height depending on the variant. Wheelbase stretches to 3,110 mm.
New Design Language and Advanced Features
The D99 adopts Leapmotor’s latest design language, highlighted by DLP headlights, an active front grille, a slim front light bar, and an interactive rear display panel. The show vehicle also features panda-themed graphics and green decorative elements, giving it a distinctive display appearance despite being developed as a production model for the Chinese market.
LEAP 4.0 Platform and Driver Assistance Systems
The D99 is based on the new LEAP 4.0 platform, integrating power electronics, a smart cockpit, and advanced driver-assistance technologies. The vehicle is equipped with dual Qualcomm 8797 chips, a central control unit, and a VLA-based driver assistance system. Safety technologies include Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Emergency Steering Assist (AES).
Fully Electric and Range-Extended Versions
The fully electric version uses a 1000-volt platform paired with a 115 kWh CATL battery, delivering a claimed driving range of between 720 km and 800 km. In addition, a range-extended variant will be available, featuring an 800-volt architecture and a turbocharged engine.
