Hyundai Motor Group has launched a pilot project for automated parking robots inside a residential complex in Siheung City. The goal is clear. Solving the shortage of parking spaces in residential areas through smart robots that operate independently.

Project Overview

According to Yonhap News Agency, the project aims to enhance safety and efficiency in vehicle parking operations. These small machines mimic the tasks of parking attendants commonly found on the streets of some Middle Eastern countries.

Triple Alliance for Implementation

The project brings together Hyundai Motor, Hyundai Wia (the group's auto parts manufacturing affiliate), and Hyundai Engineering & Construction. It falls under South Korea's regulatory sandbox program for smart cities.

The initiative will be implemented at the Hillstate The Wave City residential complex in Siheung. The complex boasts 1,796 housing units. Hyundai Engineering & Construction built it, with residents expected to move in starting next year.

Compact Robots for Car Parking

Two sets of parking robots developed by Hyundai Wia will be deployed on the first basement level of the complex's parking garage. These robots stand out for their compact size, standing just 110 millimeters tall, allowing them to slide under vehicles, lift the wheels, and transport the car to its designated spot.

Equipped with LiDAR sensors, the robots can recognize the vehicle and its surroundings with high precision during the parking maneuver, ensuring the task is executed safely without any human intervention. This system opens the door to smarter parking solutions for the future.
