Egypt Launches Smart Fuel Station in El-Zawya El-Hamra Delivering EGP 2 Million Monthly Savings
Inauguration of a Smart Fuel Station in El-Zawya El-Hamra
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has inaugurated the newly developed controlled fuel station for vehicles in the El-Zawya El-Hamra district of Cairo, marking a significant step toward modernizing fuel management systems through digital governance and smart infrastructure. The station is designed to provide an integrated intelligent system that ensures precise fuel dispensing, reduces losses, and strengthens consumption monitoring across government fleets.
The project reflects Egypt’s broader strategy to enhance resource efficiency through technology-driven solutions. By adopting a fully digital monitoring system, the station enables accurate tracking of fuel usage, significantly reducing waste and improving operational transparency in daily government vehicle operations.
Energy Efficiency and Consumption Optimization Strategy
During the inauguration, the Prime Minister emphasized that the energy sector remains a cornerstone of comprehensive national development. He highlighted the government’s strong commitment to improving efficiency across this vital sector, while promoting a culture of rational consumption within state institutions to ensure long-term sustainability.
This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to modernize resource management systems, particularly in fuel distribution, which plays a critical role in the daily operation of public service fleets. The integration of smart technologies is expected to significantly improve performance and reduce operational costs across the board.
Digital Transformation in Fleet Fuel Management
The Governor of Cairo stated that the station represents a major shift in managing petroleum resources for government vehicles, transitioning from traditional operations to a fully digitized system. This system connects all processes electronically, preventing manipulation and ensuring precise tracking of actual fuel consumption.
He also noted that the success of the El-Zawya El-Hamra model has encouraged the governorate to consider expanding the project, including the potential development of a similar facility in Helwan. The approach enhances transparency and accountability through continuous monitoring of fuel usage patterns during refueling operations.
Technical Specifications and Significant Operational Savings
According to the acting Director of Infrastructure and Information Security at the governorate’s Information Center, the station was implemented over an area of 3,017 square meters and serves 678 vehicles belonging to various government entities, including municipal departments and sanitation authorities.
The new governance system has delivered measurable savings, with monthly fuel reductions reaching approximately 95,000 liters, equivalent to 62% of previous consumption levels. This translates into estimated monthly financial savings of nearly EGP 2 million. Annual savings exceed one million liters, alongside a 45% reduction in oil usage. The system relies on a “smart ring” technology installed on vehicle fuel tanks to prevent leakage or unauthorized fuel loss while accurately recording consumption data.
The station also includes four underground storage tanks with a combined capacity of 160,000 liters, five fueling pumps equipped with 20 dispensing nozzles, and a service building spanning more than 1,000 square meters. The facility houses technical workshops and a central control room that continuously reconciles fuel consumption with stored inventory levels.
