Car AC Sounds in Summer: Expert Warns Against Ignoring Them
As temperatures soar during the summer months, many drivers rely heavily on their car's air conditioning system to keep the cabin cool. However, some may notice unusual noises when the AC is turned on, often dismissing them as minor and not worth worrying about. Experts warn that these sounds are frequently early indicators of underlying issues that require immediate inspection before they escalate into costly repairs.
Four Key Warning Sounds
Waleed Abdo, manager of an automotive service center, explained in statements to Al-Ahram Auto that there are four main sounds that may emanate from a car's AC system, each pointing to a specific problem:
Whistling or Hissing Noise
This is often the result of a loose or worn serpentine belt, or a problem with the belt tensioner causing it to slip during operation.
Repeated Clicking or Tapping
This may indicate a foreign object inside the ventilation fan, or a malfunction in one of the air distribution doors within the HVAC system.
Grinding or Metallic Friction
A sign that demands immediate attention, as it could point to a worn bearing in the AC compressor or one of its drive components.
Unusual Vibration or Shaking
Often caused by loose mounting of an AC component or a faulty cooling fan. Ignoring this sound can lead to further damage and higher repair costs later on.
Early Detection Saves Time and Money
Abdo added that if the noise appears only when the AC is turned on and disappears when it is switched off, it strongly indicates that the problem lies within the air conditioning system itself, not the engine. He emphasized that early detection of these faults saves both time and money, urging drivers not to ignore any new or unfamiliar sounds coming from their vehicle.
