Over 20 Cars See Price Hikes in Egypt This October — Increases Reach EGP 100,000

Egypt's automotive market witnessed a fresh wave of price increases in October, affecting more than 20 models from Chinese, European. Korean brands, with hikes reaching over EGP 100,000. The increases covered family sedans, crossovers, SUVs. Multi-purpose vehicles, ranging between EGP 5,000 and EGP 100,000, according to new price lists announced by local distributors. Geely prices dominated the list, but other brands also moved.

What's Driving Car Prices in Egypt?

Rising foreign exchange rates against the Egyptian pound, alongside pressure from shipping and insurance costs on imports — these factors are likely behind the price adjustments seen across several models recently, according to experts. The moves weren't entirely unexpected for market watchers, yet they added fresh burden on buyers. Fiat was among the first to announce increases, followed by Chinese and Korean brands.

Fiat 500X Tops the List

According to the new list, the Fiat 500X rose to EGP 1.1 million, up from EGP 1.08 million in the Egyptian market. That's a full EGP 20,000 jump. Fiat isn't alone, but it stands out in the compact crossover segment.

Geely Emgrand 2027: EGP 20,000 Increase Across Both Trims

The Geely Emgrand 2027 rose by EGP 20,000 across both trims, with the Comfort variant now at EGP 859,000 versus EGP 839,000 previously, while the top trim climbed to EGP 959,000 from EGP 939,000. The increase is uniform, placing Emgrand in direct competition with other sedans in the same price bracket. Geely continues to expand in Egypt despite the pressure.

Geely Coolray: Varying Hikes Between Trims

The Geely Coolray 2027 saw varying price increases, with the Comfort trim rising to EGP 989,000 from EGP 975,000 — a EGP 14,000 jump. The Premium trim climbed to EGP 1.099 million from EGP 1.075 million, up EGP 24,000. The gap between trims is now just EGP 10,000. Geely positions the Coolray as a rival crossover in the mid-price segment.

Geely Galaxy EX2: Egypt's Cheapest EV Gets Pricier

The Geely Galaxy EX2, Egypt's cheapest electric vehicle, now starts at EGP 789,900 for the 2027 model versus EGP 749,900 previously, while the higher-equipped trim is priced at EGP 899,900 compared to EGP 849,900. That's a EGP 40,000 increase for the base trim and EGP 50,000 for the second. Geely prices for EVs have risen for the second time this year.

SEAT Ibiza 2027: Hikes Up to EGP 31,000

The SEAT Ibiza 2027 rose by EGP 31,000, with the Edge trim now at EGP 1.16 million versus EGP 1.129 million, while the FR trim climbed EGP 21,000 to EGP 1.35 million from EGP 1.329 million. SEAT joins the wave of European increases.

What It Means for Buyers

The new increases mean the budget car segment is nearly empty of options under EGP 800,000. SEAT prices have crossed the EGP 1 million mark, as have most European models. Buyers face two choices: wait or shift to the used market. The used car market may be the faster alternative amid these increases.
