Seemingly minor violations carry serious consequences. Driving with non-compliant metal plates, hiding their data, or driving a vehicle with expired registration can lead to severe penalties, starting with heavy fines and potentially ending in imprisonment for repeat offenders.

Strict Penalties Under Article 74

Article (74 bis 2) states that anyone who drives a vehicle without a license or after the specified renewal deadlines, fails to display the metal plates assigned to their vehicle, uses plates not belonging to it, alters their data or colors, modifies insurance markings, or conceals them by any means, faces imprisonment for up to one year and a fine of no less than 2,000 EGP and no more than 5,000 EGP, or one of these two penalties. The penalty doubles if the same violation is repeated within one year of a final conviction, and imprisonment is imposed for a third offense.

The consequences extend beyond the driver. Those responsible for the actual management of a legal entity face the same penalties if they knew of the violation and their negligence contributed to it, with the entity held jointly liable for paying the financial fines.

Continuous Monitoring and Electronic Surveillance

The General Traffic Department continues to intensify its campaigns across various roads and axes, relying on fixed and mobile smart radars and modern electronic monitoring systems, in addition to ongoing traffic campaigns. The goal is to detect violations, catch offenders. Enforce the law to ensure discipline and safety on the roads. Safe driving begins with following the rules and avoiding violations that could cost you more than just a fine.
