Local Development Minister: New Parking Lot to Replace Informal One in Qalyubia, Tightened Microbus Oversight
A high-level meeting brought together Egypt's Minister of Local Development Dr. Manal Awad and parliament members to tackle infrastructure and public service files. Road development, parking organization, and upgrading local transport systems in Qalyubia, Gharbia, and Cairo topped the agenda.
Replacing Unlicensed Parking with a Proper Facility
Officials discussed establishing a new parking lot to replace an informal one in Qalyubia governorate. Tightened oversight on microbus stations was also a priority, aiming to enforce traffic discipline and deliver better service for passengers.
Road Paving and Urban Expansion
Needs of several cities and districts regarding paving main and secondary roads in Qalyubia and Gharbia were brought forward. These projects align with plans to improve the road network and traffic flow, alongside updating urban boundaries in certain areas to support development and urban expansion.
The minister emphasized her ministry's commitment to continuous communication with parliament members and listening to citizens' demands. Coordination with governorates and executive bodies ensures prompt solutions and improved public services.
Waste Management and Private Sector Role
Improving waste collection systems, equipping local units with necessary machinery, and enabling private sector participation in solid waste management were also on the table.
Al-Akarsha Industrial Zone Under Review
Regarding the Al-Akarsha industrial zone in Qalyubia, efforts continue to organize the area and review factory conditions. A committee has been assigned to inspect licenses and verify compliance with environmental regulations, with intensified inspection campaigns and action against violations.
The ministry's inspection and follow-up sector was directed to review all files raised and prepare a comprehensive report on findings. Studying governorate requests and executing suitable solutions with executive bodies remains a priority.
These steps form part of broader efforts to upgrade daily services, improve infrastructure efficiency, and positively impact mobility and quality of life for citizens.
