Intensive Campaigns to Crack Down on Shared Taxi Violations and Dismantle Illegal Stops in Giza
Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, Governor of Giza, directed the head of the Shared Taxi and Public Transport Authority to intensify efforts to crack down on shared taxi violations, immediately dismantle illegal stops, and firmly address cases of route-cutting and fare overcharging.
In line with the governor's directives, the Shared Taxi and Public Transport Authority ramped up its efforts to regulate operations at public stops and monitor shared taxi violations across the governorate.
According to an authority statement, the relevant departments conducted 8 campaigns in the areas of Faisal, Al-Haram, Giza Square, Al-Munib, Al-Bahr Al-Azam, and the Cairo-Asyut agricultural road.
The campaigns resulted in the issuance of 401 violations, including 87 for route-cutting, 85 for fare overcharging, 69 for loading passengers outside official stops, 60 for route violations, 75 for expired route permits, and 25 for refusing to load passengers. Additionally, two illegal stops were dismantled above the Al-Haram tunnel and at the Al-Munib bridge ramp.
Monitoring committees led by Major General Hazem Lashin, head of the authority, also stopped several shared taxis on various routes to survey passengers about driver compliance with official fares. Immediate penalties were imposed when passengers reported violations.
