Fuel Bill Rises in the Heat: Geely Reveals 5 Habits Behind Increased Consumption
With temperatures climbing and drivers leaning harder on their car's AC during the summer months, many are noticing a bigger dip in fuel efficiency than usual. The AC isn't the only culprit behind that rising fuel bill. Geely says the real problem often lies elsewhere.
Geely's advice for cutting fuel use
Geely Egypt, through its official agent Auto Mobility, has rolled out a set of tips aimed at helping drivers trim petrol consumption in summer. How you drive and the technical condition of your car directly influence how much fuel your engine burns, the company notes.
Tire pressure first
The first tip is simple: check your tire pressure regularly and keep it at the rate set by the manufacturer. Under-inflated tires create more rolling resistance on the road, forcing the engine to work harder and drink more fuel. Cranking the pressure way up isn't the answer either — it can hurt the car's stability and shorten the lifespan of the tires themselves.
Ease off the throttle and brakes
Geely Care also advises against aggressive acceleration and needless high-speed driving. Hard launches burn noticeably more fuel, and frequent panic braking only makes it worse. A smooth, steady pace and anticipating traffic ahead means less time touching both pedals — and fewer stops at the pump.
Smarter AC use
Ditching the AC entirely in an Egyptian summer isn't realistic, but running it at maximum cold all the time is a strain on the engine. That extra load pushes fuel consumption up. Vent the cabin before you move to push out the hot air, then switch the AC on and set a reasonable temperature. Once things cool down, engage the air recirculation setting to keep it that way.
Lose the extra weight
Summer trips to the coastal cities usually mean a car loaded with bags and gear. All that extra weight forces the engine to work harder, especially when accelerating or climbing hills. Geely also warns against letting the engine idle for long periods, since that burns fuel without moving you anywhere — and the waste gets even bigger if the AC stays on while you wait.
Regular maintenance closes the loop. Changing filters and oil on schedule keeps the engine in top shape. That efficiency shows up in your consumption figures. The rule is straightforward: a well-kept car is a fuel-sipping car.
