EGP 2,000 Fine: Beware of Driving Too Slowly or Stopping in These Road Locations
Many drivers believe that following traffic rules only means not exceeding the speed limit. However, driving too slowly or stopping in specific locations on the road can also result in a serious traffic violation and a hefty fine. Egyptian traffic law is clear on this matter, imposing strict penalties on anyone who violates these rules, especially in high-traffic areas.
Prohibited Locations and Penalties
Article (74 bis) of the Traffic Law states that driving at an extremely slow speed or stopping on bridges, at their approaches or exits, inside tunnels, at tunnel entrances or exits, or at road intersections is considered prohibited behavior. The violator faces a fine of no less than EGP 100 and no more than EGP 1,000. However, if the same violation is repeated within six months of the first offense, the fine is doubled to EGP 2,000—a significant amount that warrants attention.
Smart Radars and Continuous Monitoring
Law enforcement no longer relies solely on patrols to catch violators. The Ministry of Interior uses an advanced system of smart radars, both fixed and mobile, including high-precision French and German devices that record violations as they happen. These systems can capture vehicle images and log offenses accurately, whether it's speeding, excessive slowness, or stopping in prohibited areas. Traffic departments across all governorates also conduct continuous campaigns to catch offenders, aiming to ensure road discipline and protect citizens' lives. Drivers are therefore advised to fully comply with traffic rules, not only to avoid fines but also to contribute to everyone's safety.
