The drop was sharp. The US dollar saw a notable decline against the Egyptian pound during midday trading on Monday, losing more than 60 piastres across several local banks compared to morning levels. The picture looks completely different from just hours earlier.

Exchange rates tumble

Bank data confirms the slide. At the National Bank of Egypt, the dollar was quoted at EGP 50.63 for buying and EGP 50.73 for selling. Banque Misr came in very close at EGP 50.61 for buying and EGP 50.71 for selling. The differences between these lenders remain narrow — but they exist.

CIB was no exception. The dollar there dropped to EGP 50.63 for buying and EGP 50.73 for selling, matching the National Bank of Egypt's rate. Al Baraka Bank recorded the lowest buying price of the group at EGP 50.60 for buying and EGP 50.70 for selling. These small gaps reflect real-time pricing policy variations.

Wide spread between lenders

Not all banks are on the same page. The Egyptian Gulf Bank and United Bank both quoted the dollar at EGP 50.65 for buying and EGP 50.75 for selling. Crédit Agricole returned to the National Bank of Egypt level at EGP 50.63 for buying and EGP 50.73 for selling. This variance makes screen-watching essential for any trader.

The story changes at other institutions. The Central Bank of Egypt recorded the dollar at EGP 51.24 for buying and EGP 51.37 for selling. Banque du Caire and the Housing and Development Bank came in at EGP 51.27 for buying and EGP 51.37 for selling. The gap between these lenders and the first group exceeds a full 60 piastres. This is no ordinary fluctuation.

The market is in motion. These midday movements reflect continuous updates to exchange rate screens throughout the day, with prices remaining subject to change based on supply and demand dynamics and each bank's internal updates. Nothing is static here.
