Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Egypt's Minister of Transport, has inspected construction sites on the second line of the high-speed electric rail network, the 'October – Aswan – Abu Simbel' line, which spans 1,100 kilometers. The inspection focused on the 210-kilometer stretch between Aswan and Luxor stations to monitor execution rates and assess progress on one of Egypt's largest modern transport projects, in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for continuous project follow-up.

A New Developmental Artery for Upper Egypt

The Minister emphasized that the second high-speed electric rail line represents a new developmental artery for Upper Egypt, forming a key part of the 'Alexandria – Cairo – Aswan – Toshka' logistics corridor. The project aims to create an integrated developmental axis west of the Western Upper Egypt Desert Road, linking agricultural and industrial production zones with consumption and export centers, while also supporting tourism movement between Cairo and Upper Egypt governorates.

Tour Details and Station Overview

During the tour, accompanied by Aswan Governor Engineer Amr Lashin and Luxor Governor Engineer Abdel Muttalib Amara, the Minister inspected construction work at nine stations along the Aswan-Luxor sector. These include three high-speed train stations: Aswan Airport, Edfu, and Luxor, in addition to six regional stations: New Aswan, Kalabsha, El-Sebaiya, Daraw, Esna, and Armant.

Quality Standards and Timely Execution

The Minister reviewed the execution rates of stations, civil works, track, and industrial works, directing teams to intensify round-the-clock operations while fully adhering to the highest quality standards and accelerating work according to set timelines. He noted that station locations were carefully selected to be close to main roads, residential areas, and Nile axes, ensuring easy access and serving the largest number of citizens. Parking areas will be provided, and stations will be connected to surrounding cities and villages to facilitate movement.

Boosting Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining

The Minister explained that the second high-speed rail line will play a pivotal role in linking agricultural production areas in Toshka, West Aswan, and West Minya with consumption and export centers. It will also enhance connectivity between key tourist destinations such as Abu Simbel, Aswan, Luxor, Abydos, and the Giza Pyramids area, boosting both domestic and international tourism. Additionally, the project will facilitate the transport of raw materials and products from mining and quarrying areas, particularly Abu Tartur, Qena, and Aswan, to export ports.
