Egypt Seizes 12 Tons of Used Engine Oil Before Being Sold Under Famous Brand Names
Egypt's Consumer Protection Authority has cracked down on an unlicensed factory in the city of Mit Ghamr that was collecting used engine oil, recycling it, and preparing to sell it again in the market under well-known brand names in a major case of commercial fraud.
Details of the Commercial Fraud Operation
Investigations revealed that the violating factory was recycling used engine oil by mixing it with chemical additives, then packaging it in containers bearing famous brand logos without authorization, aiming to mislead consumers into purchasing counterfeit products as genuine ones.
Damage Caused by Counterfeit Oil to Engines
The Consumer Protection Authority confirmed that these oils, which do not meet standard technical specifications, cause severe damage to vehicle engines. They increase wear and tear on internal components, reduce operating efficiency, and raise the likelihood of sudden breakdowns.
Seized Items and Legal Action
Authorities confiscated 12 tons of used engine oil, along with the tools and equipment used for filling and packaging. All seized items have been secured, immediate legal measures have been taken against the violators, and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.
