Strong Boost for Egypt's Auto Industry: New Government Fund to Revive Stalled Factories
Egypt's cabinet has approved the establishment of a specialized investment fund to restructure and finance stalled factories. The decision came during today's meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, based on a proposal from the Industrial Development Authority. This move aims to support the industrial sector and encourage factories to resume production.
Investment Fund to Back Stalled Industrial Companies
The new fund will be established as an Egyptian joint-stock company, in accordance with the Capital Market Law No. 95 of 1992 and its executive regulations. It aims to inject direct investments into struggling companies through equity participation or shares. The fund's investment policy will define its operational mechanisms in the coming phase.
Targeted sectors include a wide range of vital industries, most notably food, engineering, chemical, textiles and ready-made garments, pharmaceuticals, and construction. The engineering sector specifically holds particular importance for the automotive industry.
Bringing Factories Back to Production
This step reflects an approach to dealing with stalled factories through investment mechanisms aimed at restructuring and providing the necessary financing to restore activity and production. This approach supports the sustainability of struggling companies and enhances their competitiveness in the market.
The fund is expected, once its investment policy is defined and operations begin, to direct capital toward companies eligible for restructuring and operation. This enhances the utilization of existing assets and production capacities while supporting the overall growth of the industrial sector.
How Can the Auto Sector Benefit?
The establishment of this fund may hold particular importance for Egypt's automotive sector, even though cars were not listed as an independent target sector. The engineering industries, a key component of the automotive manufacturing system and its feeder industries, could benefit directly from these investments.
Struggling companies involved in manufacturing car components, parts, and engineering supplies may find a new opportunity for revival if the fund's investment policy applies to them. Restarting these factories and improving their efficiency could significantly support the growth of car manufacturing in Egypt.
