Egypt's Minister of Youth and Sports, Gawhar Nabil, received a delegation from the Automobile and Touring Club of Egypt, with Major General Khaled Fouda, the President's Advisor for Local Development, in attendance. The meeting focused on several files related to motorsports and motorcycle racing. Plans to host major international events in the country dominated the agenda.

The delegation included engineer Ihab Lahita, the club's treasurer, and engineer Raouf Gaafar, board member and head of the club's racing and rally committee. Discussions covered key files, most notably the project to host the Mille Miglia, also known as the "Thousand Miles Race," in Egypt for the first time in 2027.

Mille Miglia Heads to Egypt

Mille Miglia is one of the world's oldest classic car races. The event has evolved over recent decades into a gathering that blends sport with tourism. The race attracts owners of historic vehicles from around the globe. The Egyptian edition will feature dozens of cars arriving from European and Arab countries.

Participants will stay several days in Egypt, benefiting from hotels, services, and various tourist facilities. The Minister of Youth and Sports promised the necessary support to make the event a success, in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and several government bodies, including the Ministries of Finance and Interior.

Simplifying entry procedures for participating cars, securing the race route, and providing the required logistical support were all points agreed upon during the talks.

Formula 1 Dreams Require Massive Investment

Gaafar revealed an intention to explore hosting Formula 1 races in Egypt. Implementing the project requires massive investments that could reach tens of millions of dollars. The project could attract interest from investors and international funding institutions to contribute to its execution.

The main requirement is securing suitable land for the circuit. The technical and logistical dimensions of this project need careful study. The timeline for execution remains unspecified. The club sees this as a qualitative leap for Egyptian motorsports and a chance to put the country on the global championship map.

Both projects — Mille Miglia 2027 and Formula 1 — reflect a genuine desire to develop motorsports. Government support will determine the speed of implementation and how serious these ventures become on the ground.
