Chery Tops Egypt's Passenger Car Sales in May with 16% Market Share
The numbers speak for themselves. Chinese automaker Chery climbed to the top of Egypt's passenger car sales chart in May, recording 1,966 units and capturing a 16 percent market share. This strong performance signals a notable shift in the competitive landscape of the local market.
Ranking Breakdown
Nissan settled for second place. The Japanese brand held a 15 percent share after selling 1,793 vehicles — just 173 units behind the leader. Hyundai came in third with an 11 percent slice and 1,401 units sold. The gap between first and third is tighter than many expected.
MG ranked fourth. Sales hit 1,275 cars, good for a 10 percent share. Toyota took fifth place with 821 units and a 7 percent share — a relatively modest showing for a brand long dominant in Egypt. Changan followed closely with 772 cars and a 6 percent stake.
The Rest of the Pack
Chevrolet landed seventh. The American brand moved 584 cars for a 5 percent share. BAIC took eighth with 507 units and 4 percent, edging out Haval which sold 490 vehicles at nearly the same market share.
Kia closed out the top ten. The Korean automaker captured just 4 percent of the market with 465 cars sold in May. This ranking paints a clear picture: Chinese brands are charging hard while some traditional names lose ground — a trend worth watching in the months ahead.
