A growing trend among car and motorcycle riders, particularly the youth, involves modifying exhaust systems to produce loud, attention-grabbing noises. However, many drivers are unaware that this modification can lead to severe traffic violations, resulting in hefty financial fines and potentially a one-year driving license suspension.

Article 72 of the Traffic Law

According to Article 72 (repeated 2) of the Egyptian Traffic Law, any vehicle driver causing a nuisance by emitting loud noises, excessive smoke, non-compliant exhaust emissions, or foul odors faces a fine ranging from 5,000 to 15,000 EGP. The law also penalizes drivers who litter the roads, fail to secure their cargo properly, or allow flammable or hazardous materials to leak, without prejudice to any stricter penalties stipulated in other laws.

Escalating Penalties for Repeat Offenders

The law enforces stricter penalties for repeat offenses. If a driver commits the same violation within a six-month period, the financial fine is doubled. Furthermore, a third offense within a single year results in the immediate suspension of the driving license for a full year, serving as a decisive measure to curb such violations.

Electronic Monitoring and Traffic Campaigns

In this context, the General Department of Traffic is intensifying its campaigns across all roads and major axes to detect and apprehend violating vehicles, specifically those utilizing modified exhaust systems that fail to meet technical standards. Traffic authorities rely on an extensive network of smart radars and widespread traffic patrols nationwide to enforce road discipline and ensure the safety of all road users.
