Egypt Moves Toward EV Battery Manufacturing: Mansour and Tianneng in Talks

Egypt's investment minister Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Mansour Group and China's Tianneng Battery Group Co Ltd to explore cooperation in battery manufacturing and energy storage solutions. The MoU covers studying the production of lead-acid car batteries.

Lithium Batteries and New Energy Vehicles

The more significant phase involves lithium battery production designated for new energy vehicles. This aligns with localizing industries tied to electric and hybrid vehicles in Egypt. The signing ceremony included Mostafa Sheikoun, head of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, plus officials from the General Authority for Investment and commercial representation.

The minister stressed that lithium batteries represent a promising sector within the state's strategy to deepen local manufacturing. Partnering with Tianneng offers access to advanced technologies and expertise. The expected value extends to boosting Egypt's manufacturing and export capabilities in the new energy vehicle segment.

Egypt's Ambition to Localize Electric Car Manufacturing

What makes Egypt attractive for such investments? The minister cited the strategic geographic location, robust infrastructure, and transport networks. The Suez Canal Economic Zone and other industrial areas are prime candidates to host battery-related projects.

Meeting domestic market demand remains the priority, but ambitions stretch toward regional and global export expansion. The government has pledged full support during the project study phase, including offering suitable industrial land options. Accelerating land allocation procedures once the final site is selected represents a critical step forward.
