Al Nasr Automotive is set to announce tomorrow, Saturday, the launch of its first electric vehicle production in Egypt, following the completion of major upgrades to its production lines. The move marks a new beginning for the company's return to competition in the automotive industry. The door is now open for new models in the near future.
Major Upgrades at Al Nasr Production Lines
Eng. Alaa Salah El-Din, head of the automotive industry unit at the Ministry of Industry and advisor to the head of the Industrial Development Authority, said Al Nasr factories have undergone major updates covering passenger car and bus production lines. The upgrades aim to keep pace with the latest global systems and technologies. Speaking on a special interview with the "Arabity" program on Radio Egypt, hosted by journalist Hisham El-Zeiny, he added that the successful development opened the way for manufacturing Egyptian cars through partnerships with other companies.
Third-Party Manufacturing and Upcoming Electric Models
Cars are currently being manufactured for third parties, alongside partnerships to produce other models, including electric vehicles such as the one to be launched tomorrow. Salah El-Din noted that tomorrow's ceremony will reveal Al Nasr's first electric vehicle production in Egypt, hinting at more models coming soon. This step brings Nissan prices back into focus as a potential competitor in the local EV market.
Leadership Role in Reviving Al Nasr
The head of the automotive industry unit praised the role of Dr. Khaled Shadeed, chairman of Al Nasr Automotive, in managing the development process and setting the right vision to restart the factories. The achievement represents a major success story in reviving one of Egypt's most important industrial entities. Returning to the EV market means direct competition with models like Nissan. That holds a significant share of Egypt's electric vehicle market.
What Does the First Egyptian Electric Vehicle Mean?
The launch of the first electric vehicle from Al Nasr factories marks a turning point for Egypt's automotive industry, especially as the state pushes toward localizing this sector. Competition will be tough against imported models, but local production could lower costs in the long run. The market awaits tomorrow's official announcement for specs and pricing.
