Traffic Violation Most Drivers Miss on Bridges and Tunnels.. Fine Can Reach EGP 2,000
Most drivers believe that sticking to speed limits is enough to avoid traffic fines. But that's far from the truth. Driving too slowly or stopping in restricted areas on bridges and tunnels is a clear violation under Egyptian traffic law. In some cases, the fine can double to EGP 2,000 if the same offense is repeated within six months.
What the Traffic Law Says
Article 74 (bis) of the Traffic Law stipulates that driving at extremely low speeds or stopping on bridges, at their approaches or exits, inside tunnels, at their entrances or exits, or at road intersections, subjects the violator to a fine of no less than EGP 100 and no more than EGP 1,000. That number can be multiplied if the driver commits the same violation within six months from the date of the first offense, pushing the total fine to EGP 2,000.
How Authorities Catch Violators
Traffic authorities rely on an advanced monitoring system that includes smart radars and modern surveillance cameras operating automatically. These technologies don't miss a thing, whether it's speeding, excessive slowness, or illegal stopping. In addition, continuous field campaigns run on highways and bridges to catch offenders.
The goal of these measures isn't just to collect fines but to enforce traffic discipline and reduce behaviors that obstruct traffic flow. Sudden stops on bridges or in tunnels pose a serious risk to road users and can lead to fatal accidents. Therefore, every driver should realize that observing speed limits isn't enough; they must also avoid stopping in non-designated areas.
