The US dollar hovered near stable levels against the Egyptian pound during midday trading on Monday, as most major banks kept their rates unchanged. Calm prevailed across the local currency market, with exchange desks closely monitoring every move in global markets.

Dollar Rate at the National Bank of Egypt

The National Bank of Egypt priced the dollar at EGP 50.15 for buying and EGP 50.25 for selling. As one of the country's largest state-owned lenders, it processes enormous volumes of hard currency daily, making its rates a key reference for both individuals and corporate clients.

Dollar Rate at Banque Misr and Banque du Caire

Banque Misr quoted the American currency at EGP 50.09 for buying and EGP 50.19 for selling. Banque du Caire, But set its dollar rate at EGP 50.00 for buying and EGP 50.10 for selling — a marginal difference when compared with its state-run peers.

The gap between banks is nearly invisible. Trading desks are in a cautious mood, with all eyes turning to the Central Bank of Egypt for any signal on policy shifts. The market appears to be holding its breath.

Dollar Rate at Bank of Alexandria and CIB

Bank of Alexandria recorded the lowest dollar price in the market today, reaching EGP 49.95 for buying and EGP 50.05 for selling. That marks a drop of roughly 42 piasters compared with earlier mid-session levels, pointing to noticeable fluctuation in recent days.

The Commercial International Bank (CIB) followed suit, quoting the dollar at EGP 49.95 for buying and EGP 50.05 for selling. This leaves traders with a tight—yet clear—range across most banks, roughly from 49.95 to 50.25 pounds.

Stability is the word of the day. Whether this calm persists or cracks under pressure remains to be seen. What is certain, however, is that the exchange market will stay in the spotlight for the rest of the week.
