JAC JS2 to Be Locally Assembled in Egypt – The Cheapest Compact SUV Returns
The Egyptian automotive market is set to welcome a new locally produced model, as the Al-Qasrawy Group prepares to begin assembly of the JAC JS2 at the Nasr Automotive Company plant. This strategic move is expected to reshape the competition in the compact SUV segment, as the JS2 has long held the title of the most affordable SUV in its class within the Egyptian market.
From Import to Local Production
Previously imported entirely from China, the JAC JS2 maintained a strong reputation as the cheapest compact SUV in Egypt for an extended period. By shifting production to the Nasr Automotive Company facility, the vehicle is expected to carry a lower price tag than its imported predecessor, making it even more competitive and appealing to budget-conscious consumers across Egypt's automotive market.
Pre-Launch Testing and Timeline
According to industry reports, the first batch of JAC JS2 units has already rolled off the assembly line at the Nasr plant. These vehicles are currently undergoing rigorous road tests and operational evaluations on Egyptian roads to ensure compliance with quality standards and performance efficiency. Market analysts anticipate the official launch of the locally assembled version during the fourth quarter of 2026, with some expectations pointing to a release before the end of the year.
Dimensions and Exterior Features
The JAC JS2 features compact dimensions ideal for daily urban driving. It measures 4,135 mm in length, 1,750 mm in width, and 1,568 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,490 mm. The vehicle offers a rear cargo capacity of 450 liters and a fuel tank that holds 42 liters. These figures place the JS2 in a strong position against rivals in the subcompact crossover segment.
Engine Specifications and Transmission
Under the hood, the JAC JS2 is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 111 horsepower and peak torque of 146 Nm. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which ensures smooth power delivery and improved fuel efficiency. The suspension setup includes an independent MacPherson strut front suspension and a semi-independent torsion beam rear suspension, while electric power steering enhances maneuverability in tight spaces.
Pricing and Market Outlook
The only available trim of the imported JAC JS2 was priced at EGP 800,000. With local assembly expected to reduce costs significantly, the upcoming locally produced version is poised to become a formidable contender in the affordable SUV category. Car enthusiasts and potential buyers are eagerly awaiting the official announcement of final specifications and pricing for the Egyptian-assembled JAC JS2.
