Hyundai Elantra Eighth Generation Officially Revealed with Bold Design and Advanced Tech
Hyundai has officially unveiled the eighth generation of its popular sedan, the Elantra, known in South Korea as the Avante, at the 2026 Busan International Mobility Show. The South Korean automaker presents one of the boldest iterations in the model's history, featuring sharp styling, larger dimensions, and a fully digital cabin.
A Radical Shift in Design Philosophy
The new generation marks a clear transformation in the Elantra's philosophy, moving beyond its role as a practical compact sedan to embrace a more sporty and tech-oriented character. This move comes as Hyundai aims to maintain its presence in the sedan segment despite the growing global dominance of SUVs in consumer preferences.
Art of Steel: A New Design Language
Hyundai has adopted a design language called Art of Steel for the new Elantra, a philosophy built on sharp lines, taut surfaces, and bold angles. This language is evident in the front fascia, which features T-shaped daytime running lights, separate LED headlight units below, and a lower, wider grille that gives the car a more aggressive and broader road presence.
From the side, the new Elantra appears more muscular than its predecessor, with prominent wheel arches, sharp character lines along the doors, and flush-type door handles. Some trims ride on 18-inch two-tone sport alloy wheels. At the rear, the design is almost entirely new, with T-shaped LED taillights connected by a full-width light bar and the model name embossed on the trunk lid. A ducktail-style integrated spoiler and a large rear bumper with black accents and a diffuser-inspired look give the car a distinctly sporty appearance, even in non-performance variants.
Larger Dimensions for Improved Space
The new Elantra has grown in size compared to the previous generation, measuring 4,765 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,425 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. Overall length has increased by approximately 55 mm, width by about 30 mm, and the wheelbase has grown by 30 mm. These figures are designed to enhance interior spaciousness and road stability while retaining the compact sedan's character.
Advanced Digital Cockpit
Inside, the new Elantra features a cleaner, more modern dashboard dominated by a large infotainment screen with a sophisticated information system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The center console has been redesigned for a sleeker look, with digital controls and sport seats offering improved support. The car is also equipped with the latest driver-assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking.
