Audi Q9 Unveiled: The Brand's Largest SUV Ever With Seven Seats and Cutting-Edge Tech
Audi has officially taken the wraps off the Q9, the first full-size SUV in the German brand's storied history. The newcomer sits proudly at the top of Audi's crossover lineup, going head-to-head with the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS. Size alone tells a big part of the story.
Massive Dimensions and a Mobile Lounge
The Q9 claims the title of the largest Audi ever produced, stretching 5.31 meters in length and 2.21 meters in width including mirrors, with a height of 1.81 meters. The wheelbase spans 3.14 meters, a figure that translates directly into generous interior space and a third row that finally means business. These proportions give the Q9 an imposing road presence while delivering cabin space that rivals luxury lounges.
Inside, the layout is flexible right from the start, with seven seats arranged in a 2+3+2 configuration as standard. For those seeking a different vibe, a six-seat version is available featuring two individual electrically adjustable chairs in the second row, offering an atmosphere closer to business-class airline seating. Third-row passengers aren't left out either, with separate power-folding backrests, while the front seats come equipped with ventilation and massage functions.
Cabin Technology: Five Climate Zones and Triple Displays
Automatic climate control is distributed across five separate zones, ensuring personalized comfort for every occupant. The new electric doors can be opened and closed from multiple control points or via the myAudi app, backed by sensors that monitor the surroundings to minimize the risk of door collisions with nearby objects. Pure convenience, but it's the smart safety layer that makes it stand out.
Technology dominates the dashboard experience, featuring a 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a dedicated 12.3-inch display for the front passenger. Audiophiles get a Bang & Olufsen sound system with 22 speakers, paired with seat-integrated vibration effects for a four-dimensional audio experience that pushes the boundaries of in-car entertainment.
The most striking feature inside the Q9 is the largest panoramic glass roof Audi has ever fitted, covering more than 1.5 square meters. This roof can be upgraded with technology that adjusts its transparency level, complemented by integrated lighting that changes colors in sync with the cabin's ambient illumination.
Semi-Autonomous Driving and Futuristic Lighting
Driver assistance takes a major leap forward with a system that permits hands-free driving on approved highways up to 130 kilometers per hour. The Q9 handles steering, acceleration. Braking autonomously in those conditions, although the driver remains responsible for monitoring the road at all times. That puts this SUV firmly in the league of today's most advanced partial automation.
Lighting technology carries Audi's signature future-forward DNA, with Digital Matrix LED headlights using Micro-LED units and curved digital OLED taillights. Turn signals can project symbols onto the road surface, improving communication with other drivers, while the digital rear lights reinforce Audi's new visual identity after dark.
Competition in the full-size luxury SUV segment just got a whole lot more interesting. Audi enters the battle with the Q9 armed with size, technology, and luxury in abundance. The real question now: how will BMW and Mercedes respond?
