The exceptional example sold for $14.575 million at Mecum's Monterey sale in California, marking the highest price ever recorded for this legendary model at public auction. The figure clearly surpasses the previous record of $12.105 million.

The winning bid reached $13.25 million, with buyer's fees pushing the final total to the record sum. This transaction underscores the escalating value of limited-production supercars, particularly rare Ferrari models that collectors fiercely compete for. Monterey's auction week on August 15, 2026 saw two F50s cross the block at different auction houses, totaling nearly $25 million, but the yellow example stole the spotlight by a wide margin.

Why This Particular Example?

Color is the primary answer. This record-breaking car sports the rare Giallo Modena yellow finish, an uncommon shade for this iconic supercar. Out of only 349 F50s ever built by Ferrari worldwide, just 31 rolled out in yellow — roughly 9% of total production. This scarcity significantly boosts the car's appeal among serious collectors.
