Global Recall: Over 1.3 Million Jeep Vehicles at Risk of Fire
Stellantis, the multinational automotive giant, has announced a global recall affecting more than 1.3 million Jeep SUVs and light trucks due to an electrical defect that could cause the vehicle to catch fire while parked.
Affected Models
The recall targets Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator models from the 2021 through 2025 model years. The company has urged owners to park their vehicles away from buildings and populated areas to minimize the risk of fire-related injuries or property damage.
Root Cause of the Defect
The issue stems from a problem in the electrical connections of the power steering pump wiring. In rare cases, this fault can cause flammable materials to overheat, increasing the likelihood of a fire.
Global Scope
According to Stellantis, the recall covers 1.08 million vehicles in the United States, 106,000 in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico, and an additional 125,000 vehicles across the rest of the world.
Remedy and Timeline
The recall process will involve inspection and repair or replacement of the wiring harness or the electric power steering pump if a manufacturing defect is confirmed. Stellantis expects all repairs to be completed by July 2025. The company noted that it has received one report of a potential injury related to the issue, but no accidents or fatalities have occurred.
Affected customers will be notified by email as soon as appointment scheduling for the repair becomes available.
