Stellantis, the parent company of American brand Chrysler, has announced a massive recall affecting more than 1.3 million vehicles across the United States. The numbers released by the company are substantial. The recall covers approximately 1.27 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks from the 2019-2026 model years in the U.S. market, representing the bulk of this massive campaign. In addition, 156,000 vehicles are affected in Canada, 15,000 in Mexico. Roughly 75,000 more across other global markets.

Adding all these figures together, the total number of recalled vehicles worldwide surpasses 1.5 million units. This makes it one of the largest recall operations in recent years. Thousands of drivers across North America will receive notifications in the coming weeks.

The Technical Defect Behind the Recall

The technical issue here isn't with the seat belt itself, but rather with how it's anchored. The company stated that the buckle for the rear center or rear left seat may have been improperly fastened to the vehicle's structure during the manufacturing process. Stellantis will begin notifying affected vehicle owners in the coming period, urging them to visit authorized dealerships for a comprehensive inspection at absolutely no cost. If any fault is detected, dealers will repair the defect or reinstall the seat belt anchorage points as needed — all without charging customers a single penny.
