Fines Exceeding 2 Million Dirhams: How the UAE Became a Model in Regulating Influencer Chaos
Dr. Saeed Hamed, a professor of digital media at several Arab universities, revealed that the UAE's experience in regulating the work of bloggers and content creators has become one of the most prominent Arab models in confronting electronic content chaos. He explained that the UAE has established clear legislation to protect society from misleading information and digital violations, making it a role model in the region.
Details of UAE Legislation for Digital Content Regulation
In an interview with the program 'Arabity' broadcast on Egypt Radio, Hamed stated that the UAE legislation aims to protect society, customs, traditions, and individual privacy, while also ensuring the safety of information circulated on social media platforms. He confirmed that these laws are a response to the growing influence of bloggers on public opinion and consumer behavior.
Graduated Penalties and Large Financial Fines
Dr. Saeed Hamed pointed out that penalties begin with a warning, then escalate to large financial fines that may exceed two million UAE dirhams, depending on the type and impact of the violation. He added that these penalties achieve both general and specific deterrence, contributing to maintaining a more responsible digital environment that aligns with the aspirations of Emirati society.
Hamed emphasized that the UAE experience confirms that regulating the content industry is no longer a luxury but an urgent necessity in the digital age. He recommended adopting similar models in Arab countries to control electronic content and protect societies from violations that may affect values and privacy.
