Next-Gen Hyundai Tucson Spied: Bigger, Bolder, and Potentially All-Electric
The fifth-generation Hyundai Tucson, the South Korean automaker's best-selling model, is approaching its debut. Since the first generation launched in 2004, the Tucson has become a global success. Now, spy photos of early prototypes have sparked renderings and speculation about the SUV's radically new design.
Launch Timeline
The all-new Tucson is expected to be unveiled either later this year or in 2027. Based on camouflaged prototypes, the fifth-generation model will feature a dramatic overhaul compared to the current fourth-generation model.
Bold Exterior Design
Hyundai is not playing it safe with its compact SUV. Despite the Tucson being one of the brand's most critical models, the upcoming generation is expected to adopt a far more daring exterior design compared to the current version, with bold lighting elements never seen before at the front and rear.
Larger Dimensions and Boxier Stance
The fifth-generation Tucson is likely to grow in size, thanks to a slightly longer wheelbase and a more upright, boxy design. This marks a departure from the current model's sleek, streamlined look, aligning more with the design language of the new Santa Fe and Palisade, though it will remain a distinct model.
Interior Updates
Inside, Hyundai is not introducing a revolution. The automaker has reportedly dropped the recently launched Pleos operating system, but large screens remain alongside physical buttons. Most of the company's advanced driver-assistance features will be available, and passenger space will be generous thanks to the new design, with a focus on practicality.
Powertrain Options
The current Tucson offers gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. However, recent reports suggest Hyundai may follow Toyota RAV4's approach and offer an all-electric and hybrid-only lineup, completely eliminating internal combustion engine (ICE) versions.
