Hamilton: 'I've Destroyed the Car Guys' – Ferrari in Crisis Mode Before Belgium Qualifying
Ferrari's Formula 1 team is scrambling to repair Lewis Hamilton's car after the seven-time world champion slammed into the barriers during the third free practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix. The British driver must now hope his mechanics can restore the SF-25 in time for the all-important qualifying session scheduled later on Saturday.
Incident Details and Damage Assessment
Hamilton lost control of his Ferrari through the high-speed sector, running wide onto the gravel trap before the right-rear wheel made heavy contact with the Armco barrier. The impact destroyed the rear suspension assembly and inflicted significant damage to the gearbox area and rear bodywork. The crash brought out red flags in the closing minutes of FP3, cutting short the team's final preparations.
Hamilton's Immediate Reaction
An apologetic Hamilton radioed his engineering crew immediately after the accident, saying: "I've destroyed the car guys, sorry." The seven-time champion watched the remainder of the session from behind the catch fencing while his rivals returned to the pits to finalise their qualifying setups. Ferrari's garage fell into a silent frenzy as mechanics assessed the extent of the repairs needed before the Q1 green light.
Ferrari's technical crew faces a monumental task replacing the entire rear suspension, checking the gearbox housing, and repairing the diffuser and rear crash structure. Any delay or compromise in the repair work could force Hamilton to miss qualifying entirely or start from the pit lane, severely limiting his chances in Sunday's main race at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
