A new amendment to the Egyptian Traffic Law aims to enhance road safety and reduce traffic risks. The Official Gazette published the Minister of Interior's Decree No. 800 of 2026, which adds a new clause (5) to Article (254) of the Executive Regulations of the Traffic Law.

Details of the New Traffic Law Amendment

Traffic expert Major General Ayman Al-Dabaa confirmed that the security clearance certificate has been updated with specific details under this decree. The decision stipulates that anyone seeking to obtain or renew a vehicle driver's license must submit a security clearance certificate issued by the competent Traffic Investigation Unit.

Exclusion of Convicted Individuals from Certain Cases

The decision aims to exclude individuals convicted in drug abuse cases, crimes involving honor and trustworthiness, as well as those convicted in cases of manslaughter or negligent injury from obtaining driver's licenses. An exception is made if three years have passed since the execution of the sentence or its expiration due to the passage of time, or if the sentence is subject to a suspension of execution.

Preventing High-Risk Individuals from Obtaining Licenses

This measure is designed to protect lives and avoid the potential danger posed by these individuals driving vehicles. They represent a risk to themselves, others, and society at large. The Ministry of Interior has already begun implementing this decision by requiring the submission of a security clearance certificate as a fundamental condition for obtaining or renewing a vehicle driver's license.
