Digital Media Expert: Specialization Is Key to Responsible Content Creation
Dr. Saeed Hamed, a professor of digital media at several Arab universities, has warned against leaving content creation without regulation, emphasizing that specialization must be a fundamental requirement for anyone producing content—whether promotional, political, social, or cultural. He cautioned that the absence of expertise could turn digital platforms into a primary source of misinformation, which negatively impacts public trust.
Why Expertise Is Crucial to Protect Consumers
In his media interview, Hamed explained that a blogger or influencer must be specialized in the field they discuss, as a lack of experience leads to the spread of inaccurate information that may mislead consumers or community members. He stressed that such false information can negatively affect public interests, especially in sensitive areas like health, economics, or road safety.
Global Moves Toward Licensing Content Creators
The digital media professor noted that several countries have already begun establishing standards and criteria for licensing content creation activities. He affirmed that these steps aim to ensure the delivery of documented and responsible information while curbing the spread of false news and misinformation that threatens the credibility of digital content. He added that digital platforms urgently need a regulatory framework to protect the public from unprofessional practices.
Journalistic Integrity: Principles Still Valid
Hamed pointed out that responsible media is built on facts and evidence, citing a famous saying by the late media professor Ahmed El-Maghazy: 'If you speak, do not fear; if you fear, do not speak.' He explained that this principle remains one of the most important foundations of journalistic work—no one should discuss any issue without clear and documented evidence. He called on content creators to adhere to these principles to ensure meaningful content that respects the audience's intelligence and contributes to building an informed society.
