Seized Vehicle Yards to Be Cleared and Auctions to Begin in July

In Egypt, a new cooperation agreement has been announced between the Ministry of Finance, represented by the General Authority for Government Services and the Asset Management Authority for Recovered Funds, the Public Prosecution, the National Bank of Egypt, and Banque Misr. The agreement aims to modernize the handling of seized vehicles and accelerate disposal procedures in order to maximize economic returns while reducing accumulation in designated storage yards, alongside improving the overall efficiency of state asset management systems.

A comprehensive framework for managing seized vehicles

The agreement establishes a structured framework for dealing with all types of vehicles subject to seizure or legal confiscation by judicial and governmental bodies. This includes passenger cars, commercial transport vehicles, and motorcycles. The initiative reflects ongoing state efforts to optimize underutilized assets and convert them into productive resources rather than allowing them to remain idle in storage yards, where long-term accumulation can lead to deterioration and financial loss.

The framework also introduces closer coordination among all relevant authorities to ensure faster completion of legal and technical procedures related to these vehicles. This will enable their release to public auctions under transparent mechanisms, with participation from national banks in supporting organization and promotional activities. In addition, the system aims to enhance asset tracking and periodic evaluation prior to auctioning, improving transparency and increasing confidence in the public auction process.

Clearing storage yards and repurposing land assets

The Ministry of Finance and the Public Prosecution are implementing a phased plan to clear seized vehicle storage yards located across various governorates. The objective is to address long-standing congestion issues and return these occupied lands to the Ministry of Local Development and the Ministry of Housing. These areas are expected to be repurposed for development and public service projects, supporting urban planning strategies and ensuring more efficient land utilization in densely populated areas.

The implementation of the first phase is scheduled to begin in July, when the clearing of storage yards and the organization of structured auctions for seized vehicles will officially commence. This step is expected to establish a new cycle of more efficient government asset management, improving asset turnover rates, reducing long-term immobilization of resources, and enhancing financial recovery mechanisms for state-owned assets in the coming period.
