Hyundai Global Sales Drop 5.1% in July Amid Strikes and Weak Demand
Hyundai Motor reported a decline in global sales for July, hit by production disruptions from partial strikes and sluggish demand. The numbers paint a clear picture of a tougher month compared to the same period last year.
The Numbers Behind the Slide
The South Korean automaker sold 318,454 vehicles worldwide last month, a 5.1% drop year-over-year. Overseas sales fell 3.2% annually to 270,341 units, while domestic sales took a harder hit, plunging 14.4% to just 48,113 units.
This marks the tenth consecutive month of declining global sales for the company, underscoring sustained headwinds across multiple markets. The streak is a sobering trend for the brand.
Why Sales Are Falling and What's Next
Hyundai attributed the weak performance to production disruptions caused by a partial worker strike in July, along with customers delaying purchases ahead of new model launches. The company expects a rebound with the rollout of new vehicles, including the compact "Avante," in the second half of the year.
New launches could be a turning point. The market is watching how these models will reshape the brand's momentum, especially in the compact segment where competition is intense and buyer interest keeps climbing.
