General Motors Egypt & Africa has announced leadership changes as part of its strategy to sustain business growth and expand its operations across the region. The company is also aiming to broaden its vehicle lineup and enhance the technologies available in Egypt and across Africa, as electric vehicle adoption continues to grow throughout the region.
Sharon Nishi to Retire After 40 Years with General Motors
Sharon Nishi, Chairman and Managing Director of General Motors Egypt & Africa, is scheduled to retire on August 31, 2026, following a 40-year career with General Motors.
Rohan Fernandez Appointed as Successor
Rohan Fernandez, currently Executive Director of Commercial Operations for Africa and the Middle East, will succeed Nishi in the role. The transition process between the two executives will begin on June 1, 2026, ensuring a smooth handover of responsibilities.
Key Role in Executing Company Strategy
Jorge Plata, President and CEO of General Motors Africa and the Middle East, stated that Sharon Nishi played a significant role in implementing the company’s strategy across Egypt and the African continent. He added that Fernandez will continue driving the development of the company’s operations in the Egyptian automotive market and throughout Africa.
Major Achievements During Sharon Nishi’s Tenure
During her leadership period, General Motors achieved several milestones, including the introduction of the Cadillac brand, the launch of Chevrolet electric vehicles, and the expansion of Chevrolet’s share in the commercial vehicle segment. The company also regained a presence in the passenger car market after a period of absence through the local production launch of the Chevrolet Optra, alongside the emergence of electric vehicles.
Extensive Industry Experience for Rohan Fernandez
Fernandez brings 25 years of experience in the automotive and energy sectors across markets in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Oceania. Throughout his career, he has held positions in customer service, aftersales services, and commercial operations.
