Forthing Joins Egypt's Scrappage Program, Starts Local Assembly in 2027
The Egyptian distributor of Forthing has confirmed its strong desire to join the national vehicle scrappage program, which the government is currently studying to relaunch. The announcement came from Amr Soliman, chairman of El Amal Automotive, during remarks about the brand's local plans.
Scrappage Program: Still Under Review
The program has been in the study phase for quite some time. Government officials are working on new benefits and incentives, while examining how to execute the revamped version.
Soliman stated that his company is considering adding its electric and hybrid models to the program's lineup — a clear sign of shifting priorities in the Egyptian market. The wait continues for full details, including financing periods, funding methods, and incentives that the Ministry of Finance will offer to participants.
Local Assembly to Start in March 2027
The manufacturing timeline is becoming clearer. Forthing vehicles are scheduled for local assembly starting March 2027, utilizing El Amal's existing factory that previously produced BYD cars and also handles contract manufacturing for other brands.
The factory is already operational — the company won't start from scratch. Instead, it will rely on its current infrastructure, which supports local assembly and puts the brand in a strong position within Egypt's automotive localization strategy.
What Does This Mean for the Market?
Will the new scrappage program match the impact of its predecessor? It all depends on government incentives, particularly for hybrids and EVs entering the program for the first time.
Forthing is betting on this timing. Early entry into the scrappage initiative, combined with local assembly plans, offers a golden opportunity to establish a foothold in a market hungry for affordable yet advanced alternatives.
