Egypt Opens Door for Indian Auto Manufacturers: Minister Pledges Full Support
Egypt is rolling out the red carpet. Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem confirmed the government's full support for expanding Indian investments in the automotive sector and feeder industries. The statement came during a meeting with Indian Ambassador to Cairo, Suresh K. Reddy, attended by senior Ministry of Industry officials. Talks focused on industrial cooperation and explored new investment opportunities in priority sectors — including automotive, renewable energy, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and electronics.
A Partnership Gaining Momentum
Economic ties are accelerating fast. Hashem emphasized that the current momentum in Indian investments requires concrete translation into new industrial projects that boost added value. He stressed activating the private sector and the Egyptian-Indian Business Council to drive this agenda. The government's target is clear: deepen local manufacturing and transfer technology — especially in the automotive industry. That sits at the heart of industrial policy.
The invitation extends to both large and medium-sized Indian companies. The logic is simple: leverage advanced Indian industrial expertise to upgrade local manufacturing capabilities and increase the local component ratio across industries. Egypt offers competitive advantages — strategic geographic location, trade agreements granting preferential market access to regional and global markets, qualified technical labor, and strong investment incentives. The minister made sure to highlight each one.
Egypt as a Regional Manufacturing Hub
The message was direct. Hashem urged Indian companies to establish new factories in Egypt and use the country as a base for manufacturing and export to Africa and the Middle East. He noted that successful existing ventures will act as a powerful magnet for further Indian investment. This aligns perfectly with the government's vision of transforming Egypt into a regional manufacturing and export center — opening enormous potential for the local automotive sector.
Practical steps are already being discussed. The minister called for enhanced cooperation with Indian industrial developers to establish specialized industrial zones in Egypt. These zones would meet growing demand for serviced industrial land and support state plans for industrial expansion. For his part, Ambassador Suresh K. Reddy confirmed that Indian companies view Egypt as a strategic gateway to regional markets — a view backed by Egypt's unique location and extensive trade agreements.
