Egypt and Brazil Discuss Industrial Partnership in Automotive and Biofuel Sectors
The Egyptian government is moving toward expanding industrial cooperation with Brazil in the automotive and feeding industries sector. The plan targets attracting new investments in car components manufacturing and biofuels, while benefiting from Brazilian expertise in low-emission fuel technologies that are reshaping the future of global transportation.
Ministerial Meeting on BRICS Sidelines
This came during a meeting between Engineer Khalid Hashem, Minister of Industry, and Marcio Elias Rosa, Brazil's Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, on the sidelines of the BRICS industry ministers meeting in Jaipur, India. The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Maghawry, Assistant Minister of Industry for International Cooperation, with both sides discussing future partnership prospects across several strategic sectors.
The Minister of Industry emphasized that Egypt seeks to move economic relations with Brazil beyond trade exchange toward an integrated industrial partnership. The new partnership will rely on technology localization and connecting Egyptian and Brazilian companies to global supply chains, which enhances the competitiveness of local industry in regional and international markets.
Car Components Among Target Sectors
Hashem explained that the government aims to attract Brazilian investments in a number of strategic industries, topped by car components manufacturing alongside engineering industries, electronics, and machinery and equipment. The list also includes biofuels, ethanol, and sustainable aviation fuel, sectors witnessing increasing global demand amid carbon emission reduction trends.
The minister indicated that Egypt has already begun developing two projects for producing sustainable aviation fuel, while studying expansion into ethanol and biofuel projects in the coming phase. Transferring Brazilian expertise in clean energy and low-emission fuels represents a top priority, supporting the shift toward a more sustainable transportation industry in the Egyptian market.
Egypt Banks on Its Location to Attract Manufacturers
The minister added that Egypt has competitive advantages that make it an industrial platform for global companies, given its strategic geographic location and its network of free trade agreements connecting it to numerous markets. The advanced logistics infrastructure gives Brazilian companies the opportunity to manufacture within Egypt and re-export to Middle East and Africa markets with ease and flexibility.
Both sides also discussed opportunities for establishing joint projects inside Egyptian industrial zones, and enhancing cooperation between manufacturers and suppliers in both countries. The exchange of components and production inputs will support increasing the local component ratio and raising the added value of Egyptian industry, aligning with the state's strategy to localize the automotive industry in the domestic market.
Trade Exchange Approaching $5 Billion
For his part, Brazil's Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services confirmed that trade exchange between the two countries is approaching $5 billion, reflecting the growing economic relations between Cairo and Brasilia. Existing trade agreements provide a solid base for moving toward a new phase of industrial partnership, as Brazil possesses extensive experience in automobile manufacturing and biofuels that can be transferred to the Egyptian market.
The meeting comes at a time when the global automotive industry is undergoing major transformations, with the pace of transition toward clean energy and sustainable fuel technologies accelerating. Egyptian-Brazilian cooperation in this field could open new horizons for local manufacturers, and contribute to building an industrial base capable of competing in regional and international markets.
