Industry Minister: No Global Presence Without Real Quality... Egypt Enforces Global Standards on Auto Sector
Standards aren't a luxury. Engineer Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, confirmed that improving the quality system is a crucial element for enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian industry and supporting its ability to integrate into global supply and production chains. This directly impacts priority industrial sectors, most notably the automotive sector and its components.
Field Visit to the Standards and Quality Authority
The statements came during the minister's inspection of the headquarters of the Egyptian Organization for Standards and Quality, to review its activities and the technical services provided to factories and companies. The meeting was attended by Dr. Khaled Soufi, head of the authority, Dr. Ahmed Osama, supervisor of the minister's technical office, along with several company representatives.
The visit covered the authority's tasks, organizational structure, governance mechanisms, and testing laboratories. The minister also reviewed the authority's strategy to support priority industries. Hashem noted that the authority represents one of the ministry's main arms, given its role in raising product quality levels and enhancing industry's ability to access local and international markets.
Heightened Importance for the Automotive Industry
This role carries multiplied importance for the automotive industry in Egypt, given the urgent need for products and components that comply with approved specifications and standards. This compliance strengthens the chances of companies operating in the sector and its related supply chains to compete effectively in foreign markets. The numbers speak for themselves.
The minister explained that the ministry updated the Egyptian Industry Strategy 2030 by identifying 5 industrial groups based on scientific foundations, comprehensive criteria, and measurable performance indicators. These groups are led by priority industries, aiming to increase exports, deepen local manufacturing, and integrate into global supply chains — goals that can't be achieved without a product that rivals the best globally.
Quality as a Competition Prerequisite, Not Just a Certificate
Hashem stressed that quality has become an essential condition for Egyptian industry to compete globally. Standard specifications are no longer merely a regulatory requirement or a certificate an entity obtains; they have transformed into a main element of a product's ability to compete and integrate into global value and production chains. The sector, which relies on a wide network of suppliers and component manufacturers, sees raising quality levels and adhering to specifications as a path to strengthening local product competitiveness and increasing its access to various markets. The new direction sets clear benchmarks for everyone involved.
