Mahmoud Haroun: Government Support and New Investments Boost Egypt's Auto Parts Industry

Mahmoud Haroun, an expert in automotive glass manufacturing, confirmed that recent months have seen significant support from the state and the Ministry of Industry for the automotive components sector, with rising local and global investments in this industry within the Egyptian market, alongside local manufacturers who have been working in the sector for decades. This aligns with the state's broader strategy to localize the automotive industry in Egypt and enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Key Insights from the Radio Interview

Speaking on the 'Arabiyty' program broadcast on Radio Masr, hosted by journalist Hesham El-Zeiny, Haroun stated that the state and investors are moving toward supporting auto feeder industries, in line with Egypt's goal of localizing car manufacturing and strengthening local industry. He also noted that feeder industries, including wire harnesses, glass, and other components, rely heavily on the availability of skilled technical labor.

Haroun emphasized that developing technical education, industrial schools, and expanding vocational training programs are crucial factors in providing qualified personnel for this industry. He added that the state is actively working to upgrade the training and technical education system to serve the needs of the industrial sector, pointing out that the Minister of Industry's moves reveal a clear interest in automotive components, supporting investors and youth, as well as training and qualification programs.

The Role of Local Content in Boosting the Industry

Support for feeder industries represents one of the main pillars for strengthening Egypt's automotive sector, according to Haroun, especially since increasing local content not only deepens manufacturing but also opens doors for more investments, job opportunities, and the transfer of expertise and technology into the Egyptian market. This qualitative shift enhances the competitiveness of Egyptian products and supports the state's direction toward exporting to regional and global markets.

The private sector plays a pivotal role in this phase, as the current period witnesses an influx of local and foreign investments in the automotive components field, with expectations of further growth in the coming years, which supports the government's goal of raising the local content ratio to unprecedented levels.
