The numbers are striking. Around 3,366 Chinese companies are now operating in Egypt, including major players in car manufacturing and assembly for brands like Chery and Geely. This puts the automotive sector at the forefront of the investment fields targeted for Chinese expansion in the coming period, backed by a clear governmental push to clear obstacles facing these ventures.

Egyptian-Chinese Meeting Addresses Investor Challenges

That was the focus of the first meeting of the Egyptian-Chinese Committee for Business and Investment Promotion, chaired by Dr. Mohamed Awad, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, with Chinese Ambassador Liao Li Qiang in attendance, alongside representatives from both sides. The message was unmistakably clear.

The meeting translated directives from Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, into concrete cooperation, aiming to strengthen economic ties and open direct channels of communication with the Chinese business community. The goal is simple: identify the challenges investors face in the local market and resolve them through rapid coordination with relevant government bodies, reflecting a serious push to attract more massive Asian capital.

Automotive Sector Leads Key Industries

Dr. Awad stated that the number of Chinese companies investing in Egypt reaches approximately 3,366, spread across several vital sectors, topped by spinning, weaving, ready-made garments, solar panels, chemical industries, car manufacturing, and logistics services. The latter, in particular, opens wide horizons.

Awad also pointed to the establishment of a dedicated unit for Chinese investments within the authority, tasked with following up on corporate needs and coordinating with government entities to resolve challenges swiftly and effectively. He stressed that facilitating investor operations and listening directly to their demands are top priorities, especially with the accelerating expansion plans of Chinese car brands amid intense competition among local agents.

Ten Companies Present Obstacles to Officials

During the meeting, representatives of ten Chinese companies presented their most prominent operational obstacles and a number of proposed solutions. Government officials discussed the raised issues in detail to take the necessary steps, constituting a pivotal move in enhancing the business environment for these growing investments.

Ambassador Liao Li Qiang stressed the importance of continued direct dialogue, praising the investment authority's efforts to back Chinese firms and ease their path in Egypt. This builds mutual trust and paves the way for more Chinese capital into the Egyptian economy, where the automotive sector remains one of its most crucial keys.
