Chinese automotive brands have maintained their leadership in Egypt's passenger car market, posting remarkable sales figures during the first five months of 2026. According to the latest report from the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC), Chinese brands sold 26,112 vehicles, marking a 53% increase compared to 17,021 units during the same period last year.

Japanese Brands Secure Second Place

Japanese manufacturers claimed the second position in Egypt's best-selling brand rankings, with sales growing by approximately 53% to reach 16,906 vehicles, up from 11,038 units between January and May 2025. This balanced growth highlights the enduring competitiveness of brands like Toyota, Nissan, and Honda despite the rapid ascent of Chinese competitors.

European, Korean, and American Market Performance

European brands ranked third with approximately 7,807 units sold from January through May, compared to 6,346 units in the corresponding period last year, achieving a 23% growth rate. Key players such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen maintained their presence despite challenging economic conditions in the Egyptian market.

Korean brands, however, experienced a decline, capturing fourth place with 7,003 vehicles sold, down from 7,891 units in 2025, representing an 11.3% drop. American brands showed a notable recovery, recording 2,997 units compared to 2,511 cars in the previous year, a 19.4% increase, with Chevrolet and Dodge leading the American model lineup.

Indian-origin brands recorded 547 units sold during January to May, up from 268 units in the same period of 2025, reflecting growing demand for budget-friendly entry-level vehicles amid rising car prices and inflation pressures.

These figures reveal significant shifts in Egyptian consumer preferences, with Chinese brands led by Chery, Geely, and BYD dominating the sales charts, while Japanese and European manufacturers continue to compete strongly in the mid-range and premium segments of the Egyptian automotive market.
