Calls Grow for Regulating Blogger and Creator Content to Protect Consumers and Businesses
Calls are increasing for the introduction of clear regulations governing the work of bloggers and digital content creators across multiple sectors, including the automotive industry, with the aim of improving transparency and protecting consumers, companies, and brands. Journalist and media presenter Hesham El Ziny said that the absence of strict regulations has allowed individuals to publish promotional or critical content without possessing the necessary qualifications or professional expertise, raising concerns about the credibility of the information presented to audiences.
The Need for Clear Standards in Digital Content
During his presentation of the Arabyti program, Hesham El Ziny stated that a new blogger appears every half hour on social media platforms, while their academic background and professional qualifications often remain unknown. He added that some of these creators have accumulated large numbers of followers, although part of those audiences may have been acquired through purchased followers, creating questions about the reliability of popularity as an indicator of credibility.
He further explained that some bloggers suddenly emerge on social media before beginning to promote certain products or criticize others, despite audiences having no knowledge of their educational background, professional experience, or technical expertise. According to El Ziny, this situation raises important questions regarding the credibility of the content being published, particularly when it influences consumer purchasing decisions or shapes public perception of products.
Protecting Consumers, Companies, and Brands
El Ziny emphasized that regulating the activities of bloggers and content creators has become essential to protect society as well as companies and commercial brands. He noted that establishing clear rules would strengthen confidence in digital content while encouraging greater professionalism, transparency, and responsibility when publishing promotional materials, reviews, or critical evaluations.
He also pointed out that several Arab countries have already introduced regulatory measures governing this activity to ensure neutrality and professional standards in published digital content. He believes that implementing clear regulatory frameworks can create a balanced environment that supports responsible content creation while protecting consumers, companies, and brands through higher standards of credibility and accountability.
