German Fuel Prices Near Historic Peak, Just 4 Cents Off 2022 Record
Fuel prices in Germany held at elevated levels over the weekend, with E10 gasoline averaging 2.161 euros per liter, up 6.6 cents weekly. Diesel rose 8.1 cents to 2.243 euros per liter. The German automobile club ADAC attributes the increase mainly to higher oil prices, with the euro's strength offering limited relief. E10 gasoline is now just 4.2 cents from its March 2022 record, while diesel remains over 20 cents below its peak.
Fuel prices in Germany continue their upward march toward historic levels, holding steady at elevated rates over the weekend. The average price of a liter of premium E10 gasoline reached 2.161 euros on Sunday, up 6.6 cents from the previous week, according to the German automobile club ADAC.
Diesel and Gasoline Movements This Week
Diesel also jumped by 8.1 cents to 2.243 euros per liter. Yet Monday morning data points to relative stability, with E10 rising just 0.4 cents at 8 a.m. before leveling off. Diesel gained 0.9 cents at the same time, then 0.5 cents by 11 a.m.
Reasons Behind the Rise and Rhine's Impact
The German automobile club attributes the weekly increase mainly to higher global crude oil prices. The euro's strength helped cushion this effect to some extent. Now, falling water levels in the Rhine River are creating local logistical challenges that could push prices higher in the most affected regions.
E10 gasoline is now just 4.2 cents away from its all-time high recorded in March 2022. Diesel, But remains more than 20 cents below its peak from April last year. The market is watching closely to see whether prices will break through the historic ceiling in the coming days, as global energy supply pressures persist.
