Expert: Chinese Cars Threaten German Auto Industry Despite Tiny Market Share
Although Chinese cars hold only about 3% of the German market, this small share has triggered a major shock within Europe's largest automotive stronghold, leading to factory closures and turning an economic crisis into a social one. The rapid advancement of Chinese car manufacturing, especially in electric vehicles, is now threatening the position of European and global companies that have dominated markets for decades.
Expert Raafat Masrouga's Comments on Competition Fallout
Engineer Raafat Masrouga, a sales and marketing expert, stated that China's automotive development, particularly in electric cars, has threatened the standing of European and global companies. He noted that several major German firms have already begun closing some factories and laying off large numbers of workers, reflecting the intense competitive pressure these companies face.
Chinese Cars' Market Share in Europe
Masrouga added during his interview on the 'Arabity' program broadcast on Radio Egypt, hosted by journalist Hisham El-Zeiny, that China has succeeded in establishing itself in global markets thanks to rapid technological development, which has given it unprecedented competitiveness against European companies. He explained that Chinese cars hold about 14% of the Northern European market, while their share in the German market is only about 3%.
Masrouga emphasized that Europe is still searching for mechanisms to catch up with China's progress, as Chinese companies continue to advance at a faster pace day by day. This fierce competition is pushing European manufacturers to reassess their production and marketing strategies, especially amid growing global demand for electric and hybrid vehicles.
The battle between European and Chinese industries appears far from over. German companies like Volkswagen and BMW still possess enormous manufacturing and technical capabilities, but they need to accelerate innovation to meet the growing Chinese challenge. Meanwhile, Chery and BYD continue to expand globally with competitive pricing and advanced technology.
