Egypt's Ministry of Housing is planning a complete overhaul of the transport system within new cities. The new plan focuses on boosting sustainable public transport and shared mobility, while raising operational efficiency through modern technology for vehicle management and round-the-clock service monitoring.
Key Meeting Details
This emerged during a meeting held by Engineer Randa El-Menashawy, Minister of Housing, with officials from 'Misr Cities Transport Company' to review the company's vision for developing and managing the transport network in new cities. The meeting was attended by Dr. Walid Abbas, Deputy Minister for Urban Communities, along with several ministry and New Urban Communities Authority officials. Engineer Mohamed Abu Taleb, CEO of 'Misr Cities Asset and Facility Management Company'.
Integration with Main Transport Networks
The Minister stressed that developing the transport system has become an urgent necessity to keep pace with the rapid urban and population growth in new cities. She emphasized the importance of providing safe, regular, and sustainable transport means, with full coordination with the Ministry of Transport to achieve integration between internal transport networks and the main transport network — including linking new cities to the monorail and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system.
El-Menashawy pointed to the importance of leveraging modern technological solutions in vehicle operation, fare collection, and traffic monitoring. These solutions will contribute to raising operational efficiency and improving citizens' experience, while providing more accurate tools to monitor system performance under various conditions.
Integrated Monitoring and Performance System
The Minister also emphasized the need to establish a comprehensive monitoring and performance measurement system based on clear indicators to evaluate trip regularity and service quality. She called for prompt handling of citizens' complaints and feedback, ensuring effective response to the needs of residents across different new cities — here, data's role in improving service becomes evident.
Misr Cities Transport Vision for Smart Urban Mobility
During the meeting, officials from 'Misr Cities Transport Company' presented their vision for creating a sustainable internal transport network based on modern urban transport standards. The vision includes unifying the visual identity of various shared transport means within each city, giving the system a more organized appearance and making it easier for citizens to recognize official transport options.
This step comes within a broader vision to develop new cities in Egypt, where smart public transport represents an essential element in improving quality of life and reducing congestion. With the completion of monorail and LRT networks, the new transport system will mark a qualitative leap in mobility between new cities, the New Administrative Capital, and other vital areas.
